Junior A Hurling Friendly

Liscarroll 0-13 Pallaskenry 0-12
A bright but cold day in Liscarroll, Co. Cork, was the setting for the first match of the season. The Pallaskenry Junior A team arrived full of vim & vigour and ready for whatever the opposition would throw at them. The game started well for Pallas with Kieran Barrett first to score with a well taken point. The game ebbed and flowed well but a few injuries for the home team meant that the game was stopping and starting with 6 minutes added on at the end of the first half for injuries. Both teams marked each other well and we went ahead again in the 8th minute with a great point from Simon Guerin. Simon contributed 2 more points from frees in the first half. With great displays from Daniel Hannon (1 pt) and Chris McMahon, Pallas could not get ahead and went into the break 7 points to 6 points down.

The second half started well with substitute Darren Walsh pointing 1 minute intothe game. This was followed quickly with a point from Emmett O’Brien. Liscarroll were determined not to let us get too far ahead and kept with us on the score board. Simon Guerin converted 3 more frees in the second half and scored a long range point in the 30th minute. Despite our best efforts and many goal chances we could not convert possession into scores and the game ended 13points to 12 points.

For the first match of the season it was a great display of good intelligent hurling. Certainly, the cobwebs have been wiped out and it looks to be a promising season. Thanks to all who helped to organise the trip, especially Brian Kennedy and Paul Nunan
