Girls U14 Footballers Win County Shield

County U14 Girls Shield Final
Killulta Gaels 1-04 Murroe/Boher 1-01.

Thanks to St Ailbes for securing the fine facilites of Ballybricken to play this county final. Killulta got off to a flying start when Jessie Nash put her first point on the board but Murroe were quick in their reply with the next point. With Killulta playing against the wind, our backs were again unrelenting in their task of keeping Murroe from scoring, there was excellent play from both sides who were very evenly matched. Jessie went on to get the next score and Grace Morrissey quickly scored a cracking goal. Even though there were many attacks to score none were converted until just before half time when a Murroe forward scored a cracking goal after our captain and goalie Saoirsehad saved at least 6 goals. We went in at half time just ahead as we were up 1-02 to 1-01.

The girls in the second half tried everything to get more scores on the board but it took ten minutes till Jessie got the next and her third point of the match. The score remained the same until the tireless Louise Ryan broke through from her half back position to score a point and put 3 points between the teams. We had 5 more nail-biting minutes before the ref Vincent Staunton blew the final whistle and Killulta, after our third final in 3 years, finally had something to show for the hard work and commitment put in by the girls.
