Excellent Defensive Display Puts U16 Footballers On Top

Under 16 Football Division 2 Round 6
Killulta Gaels 3-10 Sean Finns 0-6.

Killulta Gaels continued their good season with another win on Monday evening at Mick Neville Park in Rathkeale. Sean Finns were first on the scoreboard after a couple of minutes but that was immediately cancelled out by a goal from Jack O’Keeffe. Eoin Cuddihy added a point two minutes later before Sean Finns got their second. By the eight minute the Rathkeale side had added another point and Killulta had added two courtesy of Barry O’Connell. For the final twenty two minutes of the half neither side played good football – Killulta managed only one more point and Sean Finns added three leaving the score for the half at 1-4 to 0-6 in our favour.

Some positional changes andsubstitutions were made early in the second half and Killulta seemed to raise the effort and concentration levels. Barry O’Connell pointed from a free in the second minute and we were now managing to string some better moves together. We were creating chances but again not managing to take our scores. In the tenth minute Barry O’Connell had his thinking cap on with a quickly taken free which found the net. Five minutes later he added a point and now our defence seemed to be getting the upper hand and threats from the opposition became less . Paudie Walsh pointed twice in quick succession and the remaining 1-2 in the final 10 minutes was credited to Barry O’Connell who was now really getting into his stride.

Our defensive display, particularly in the second half was excellent with Micheál Keating and Michael O’Donnell leading by example. For the forwards Eoin Cuddihy had a very good evening. All substitutes were used and all performed well.
