Family Fun Day 2010
A great day was had by all last Sunday in our annual Family Fun Day with lots to do for all the family. The day started with great sunshine and we were able to get everything setup without any rain. A little shower at the start of the parade put a littledamper on things but this soon passed. All the children looked great in their club gear in the parade which was lead by Lady Mayoress Breda Clarke. Once the parade arrived at the field we had some great music from Mary Cuddihy’s Band and after a few words from club chairman Emmett O’Brien, a moments silence was held for our recently deceased president Mr John Barry RIP. After the National Anthem things kicked off in earnest with a number of games on the pitch from U8 up to the U14 girls football and rounders. A long putt competition was held as well as a golf competition.
Off the field there were also a number of events, great interest in the colouring competition and a number of well groomed young ladies emerged from the Nail Art/Face Painting tent. There was great interest in the 2 televisions showing the Munster and Leinster Finals. For many the highlight of the day was watching where the cow would go. Eventually she was let into the paddock and the winner of €100 was Paddy Cronin. The day ended in a very competitive Tug O’War with The Dromore Inn emerging as eventual winners. Well done to Ian Bennis & team, it really was hard won.
A word of thanks to all those who helped in any way in preparing for this and those who helped on the day. It is next to impossible to thank everybody as people came out of nowhere to help on the day and this was sincerely appreciated. In particular we would like to thank Sean Cuddihy whose idea of showing the match live kept people in the field and to Mary Cuddihy who found musicians under mushrooms and convinced them to play. Tom, Paul, Brendan & Kenneth kept the games going on the field. Kay, Josephine, Denise & Siobhan kept everybody fed & watered for the day
If anybody has any new ideas for next year please come to us and we will be only too happy to take them on board.
