U16 Footballers Finish Group Stage with a Flourish
Under 16 Football ACL Division 2 Round 7
Killulta Gaels 2-15 Dromcollogher/Broadford 3-3
Pallaskenry was the venue last Monday evening for Killultas final match in the League portion of this competition. The season has been going very well so far having won 5 out of our previous 6 games. Killulta won the toss and decided to play with the breeze in the first half. Indeed the half started well with Paudie Walsh popping over a free in the second minute. This was followed by 2 points for our opponents. Killulta were using the breeze well but were guilty of some poor finishing. Almost 15 minutes were gone before we added a second point again from Paudie. Scores then followed quickly as Killulta dominated the second quarter, A point from Eoin Cuddihy,a goal from Jack O’Keeffe another point from Paudie Walshe, a Tony McCarthy point and another from Jack quickly followed before Drom/Broadford gave themselves a lift with a goal. With a couple of minutes left to halftime Paudie got another point and finally an own goal gave Killulta a 2-7 to 1-2 lead at half-time. Some changes had to be made at half-time due to a leg injury to Barry O’Connell immediately before the break.
The second half was only a couple of minutes old when Paudie and then Tony added further points. Drom/Broadford then hit 2 goals in the space of a minute and it was game on. It was a further six minutes before Killulta scored again from the boot of Ross Mann who had come on as a replacement for Barry. Paudie was in great scoring form and added another 2 points in the following 2 minutes. Drom/Broadford then added what proved to be their last point of the match and in the final ten minutes Greg Delap, Ross and Paudie added another 4 points. All subs were used - one enforced as Paul Clarke became our second casualty of the evening with another leg injury.
This was a good win for Killulta against very tough opponents. Both sides never stopped trying and the workrate in particular of our midfield grouping of Tony McCarthy, Darragh Walsh, Eoin Cuddihy and Ciarán O’Brien was the key to this victory. Michael O’Donnell and Dean Corrigan were a very reliable defensive pairing and Paudie Walsh was outstanding with a personal tally of 8 points. Next outing for our team is on August 2nd when the quarter finals are scheduled.
