A game of 2 halves (All-County Junior A Hurling)
Croagh/Kilfinny 2-19 Pallaskenry 2-12
Pallas travelled to Croagh last Thursday night for the next round of the All County Junior A Hurling league with great ambitions but unfortunately came away without any points. Having dominated the game for the first half, it completely turned around in the second half.
Pallaskenry opened the scoring 2 minutes into the first half with a free won by Chris McMahon and converted by Simon Guerin. Simon went on to convert 2 more frees in the first half along with a 65. At this point we were 4-2 up. In the 19th minute a great puck out from Ian Gibbs in goals, landed to Padraig O’Connell who played the ball well and experience showed when he took his time to pass over the field to Chris McMahon. An inspired pass from Chris to corner forward Kevin Taylor saw him take advantage of bad defending and put the ball in the back of the net. This saw us go 1-4 to 2 points ahead. Kevin followed up with 2 more great points from play in the first half and Ollie O’Regan also goton the scoreboard with a point from a very awkward angle. All the signs were looking well for Pallas, however, Croagh had different ideas. At the end of the first half we were a goal up with the score 1-7 to 0-7
We won a free in the 2nd half and Simonstepped up to convert this. Kevin Taylor was on hand a minute later to land the ball in the back of the net with a flick of the foot. Pallas were still well ahead at this stage and should have kept this lead but Croagh managed to score 1-5 in the space of 6 minutes bringing them right back into the game and putting the pressure on Pallas. We did not score again until the 22nd minute thanks to a great score from Simon. In the last 15 minutes of the game, Croagh managed to score 1-6 of which 1-4 came from great play from their midfield. Pallas finished out the game with scores from Emmett O’Brien & Simon Guerin.
Unfortunately it was not to be our game in the end and although we made 2 substitutions bringing on Jerome O’Connell and Kenny Rodgers we were not able to convert the great possession that we had. In the end the score was 2-19 to Croagh and 2-12 to Pallas. With the city championship fast approaching we hope that all the training since January will pay dividends. Well done to management and thanks to supporters once again who have travelled far and wide so far this year.
