U14 HURLERS QUALIFY FOR SHIELD FINAL
U 14 Hurling Shield Semi Final
Pallaskenry 3 - 5 South Liberties 1 - 7
Pallaskenry took the field on Wednesday minus a number of regulars for the U 14 Hurling Shield semi final. We did however have Ross Mann & Alan Ryan back after a long absence. Both teams playing strong fair hurling served up a treat. Liberties went into a an early lead by 3 points but Pallas slowly came back into the game with points from Ross Mann(2) and Ryan Kelly. With all our defenders playing one of their best games for awhile we kept our opponents scoreless for the rest of the half. As half time approached the ball broke to Dylan Corrigan on the 20 and drove it to the back of the net to give us a 3 point lead at half time.
In the second half playing with the sun at their backs Liberties again piled on the pressure from the off, while our defenders were playing well we were giving away silly frees and been punished.A further point from Ross kept us in ahead, however a goal and a point from Liberties put them 3 point up with 5 minutes to go. A long ball up field from Jason Barry was gathered by Richard Downes who turned his man and drove it to the net to bring us back level. With time ticking away and the ball was going from one end of the field to the other it was any ones game. Another long ball in by Jason resulted in Dylan driving the ball to the net from close range to score his second goal and put us 3 points up with a minute to go. Ross finished the scoring with the last puck of the game.
This was an excellent team performance from everyone and it would be unfair to single out anyone. From the goalie to the 2 subs used they all were superb. The team have been improving as they went through the season and now have their reward with a shield final.
